Asking people to leave

I'm a fan of Donald Miller. This article on asking people to leave your church is worth reading. Let me know what you think.

I like Donald Miller. I like that he says what he thinks. That's admirable. That said, I think it depends on the individual relationships between the pastor and those who are viewed as not participating. Sometimes people just need more time. And sometimes people aren't offered opportunities to serve in areas they're skilled in. And sometimes people are just waiting to be asked. I guess maybe I am one of his "black and white" readers. I don't think any "pastor" of any church is called only to preach a good sermon or offer an exciting worship service. So I'm not sure it would ever actually be edifying to tell someone to go somewhere else. I don't envy the extreme amount of patience that would require on the part of a pastor.

I agree that the relationships are the key and some relationships take more time than others. And you make a great point about opportunities for people to serve. (that's why I want people to come up with their own opportunities). Thanks for interacting.
